French Living Lab AgroForSoLL kicks off activities with meeting in Vézénobres

How can trees and their byproducts, crops, and soils be managed in agroforestry systems, so that soil health can be maintained or improved? That is the question that AgroForSoLL, the French Living Lab of the Nemesis project, will be tackling over the next four years.

Officially launched on 26 May 2026 at the Terres de Roumassouze agroforestry farm (Gard), the Living Lab brought together an initial core group of stakeholders from south-eastern France to conduct an initial assessment of expectations, the need for solutions to this question, and the tools and knowledge available. Led by AgroForSoll Lead Philippe Hinsinger from research institute INRAE, participants included representatives project partners from INRAE, ARVALIS, CIRAD and Agroof, joined by ANTENNE FIBL FRANCE, ELISOL Environnement, the Drôme Chamber of Agriculture, heads of experimental stations and farmers.

Organised around 12 agroforestry experimental sites in the South-East of France, the short-term goal of AgroForSoll is to assess soil health of the experimental sites, then test solutions to reduce soil degradation and monitor their impact. The long-term goal of the Living Lab however is to bring together stakeholders from the Living Lab and, more broadly, from the region, at least once a year, to review the project’s progress, discuss it and jointly define new trials or new indicators to monitor, so that the living lab can truly address the issues at hand.
